Peñíscola International Festival of Medieval and Baroque Music Date: first fortnight in August. Features: Six to seven open-air concerts held at night, with paid admission. The festival opens with a free firework show preceding the first concert. Place: Papa Luna Castle in Peñíscola, province of Castellón. Organized by: Valencia Regional Government, Castellón Provincial Government and Peñíscola City Council. Tickets: Peñíscola Tourism Office, Servicaixa ticket service, and box office. Contact: Subdirecció de Música Culturarts Tel.: 961 206 500 Created in 1996, the Peñíscola festival focuses on baroque and classical music, with a special emphasis on traditional performance that has attracted many of the genre?s leading artists and which has converted the festival into an international reference point for the interpreters of music composed between the 12th and 17th centuries. The festival?s concerts, which offer a wide-ranging variety of performances and include soloists, chamber works and orchestral performances, take place in the patio of arms of the Papa Luna castle in Peñíscola.
